Skiing in the Alborz

If you want to rub shoulders with Iran’s high society, there is no better place to be seen than skiing the Alborz Mountains around Tehran. One of the largest ski resorts of Iran and the Middle East, Dīzīn is located on the hillside of Alborz. 

This is the best ski resort within a day’s journey to Tehran. It offers standard amenities like a gondola, ski lift, lift chair, hotels, restaurants, and several cottages at the stations. At its highest point, it reaches 3,600 meters and a 7.5 km ski route covered with snow powder from December to May.

In summer, the resort offers some interesting activities. From grass skiing and mountain biking to archery and other recreational activities. You can also get acquainted with rare varieties of flowers and medicinal plants that grow in the skirt of the surrounding mountains.

There are many popular Ski resorts in Iran such as Pooladkaf in Fars Province, Ganjnameh in Hamedan…but another famous Ski resort is Tochal which is located in the north of the capital, Tehran.

Tochal is the name of a summit, on the Alborz mountain range, at an elevation of 3964 meters. The southern hillside of the Tochal mount is adjacent to Tehran and overlooks the city.

Many ski enthusiasts and climbers always wished to be able to exercise in the closest heights around Tehran by seeing the beautiful Tochal mount in winter, until the Tochal Telecabin (gondola lift) was established in 1977 and their wishes come true.
