The State Hermitage Museum is a museum of art and culture in Saint Petersburg, Russia. The second-largest art museum in the world, it was founded in 1764 by Empress Catherine the Great.

2500-Year-Old Iranian Carpet which is named after the location of its discovery, is kept in Hermitage Museum of Russia. This rug was discovered underneath frozen areas of “Pazyryk” near Russia’s border with Mongolia by Sergei Rudenko, a prominent Russian archaeologist, in 1949. This carpet is 183 by 200 centimeters (72 by 79 inches) and has 36 symmetrical knots per cm² (232 per inch²).
The Hermitage possesses the world’s largest collection of silverware created in Sasanian-era Iran. The time of the Sassanid dynasty (3rd to mid-7th centuries AD) was the final stage of the ancient history of Iran. The most famous pieces of Sasanian metalwork are silver dishes, bowls and vessels decorated with chased depictions.
A considerable portion of the Sasanian-era silverware was discovered on the territory of Russia, in the region of Perm in the 18th to early 20th centuries. It is customarily considered that in the Middle Ages merchants brought silverware to the basin of the River Kama (where Perm is situated) and exchanged it for furs and other local products.
